You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. For some people that could mean your life is on the fast track to nowhere. Or at the very least on a bumpy road with flat tires and no signs to guide you.
As I have gone through life, I have been fortunate to meet some really great people who inspire me to do better, but let’s be honest here. Some members of the five people I’m around the most aren’t helping my average. Without disowning them or leaving town, I needed a way to get my average up so I could up my game. My five people aren’t business owners and have never done what I am doing now. Their thoughts are usually pessimistic and they don’t expect the good things in life to happen to them, so they don’t even pursue them.
The best way to get inspired is to start reading books by people who I’d like to hang out with. I’ve found that there is always something that can be learned and applied to my life in business in unexpected ways. By reading books who are already where I want to go and doing what I want to do, I’m getting inspiration to up my average.
For instance I read “The 50th Law” by 50 Cent and Robert Greene which taught me that I could rely on myself. I had the power to change my future and nobody could stop me - if only I chose to be fearless. I chose fearless.
"The Motivation Manifesto” by Brendon Burchard really hit home for me with this quote: “We come to realize that our thoughts, more so than our circumstances, sabotage our freedom and success.” I chose to not let anyone rain on my parade.
“Awaken The Spirit Within” by Rebecca Rosen reinforced my belief that everything I do must be done with love and kindness. I chose to approach my business and clients from a lens of love.
I could go on and list so many other books, not to mention the songs that inspire me daily to keep going. Even when you can’t up and leave those five people, you do have the choice of what you fill your mind with. Mind you, these ideas aren’t new but it’s about what you feed your mind and soul. When you counter the the Negative Nelly’s of your life by absorbing good stuff in other formats, you change and so do those around you - upping their average.
