How Being Tolerant is Dimming Your Light (and Your Bank Account)

HOW BEING TOLERANT IS DIMMING YOUR LIGHT AND YOUR BANK ACCOUNT

dimming-your-light.jpg

What if for the next 24 hours you showed up in the world exactly as you are? While this may seem like a loaded question, the results just might astound you. You see, the majority of us dilute our personalities to feel more accepted by society or because we were raised not to be inappropriate or to rock the boat or to do as we’re told.

But as leaders, what we’re really doing is dimming our light. The cause for that dimming is called: tolerance.

What is tolerance?

The ability or willingness to tolerate something, in particular the existence of opinions or behavior that one does not necessarily agree with.

How long have you tolerated someone’s actions (or opinions) or a circumstance that contradicts who you really are? As leaders in our community, it’s imperative that our light shines bright and when it starts to dim, we know how to course correct.

So here’s an idea, instead of being tolerant all the time, why not shake things up a bit, speak up, and do/say what you want!? Who cares if your red bra strap is showing through your white tee-shirt and if you want to tattoo your body, not even your husband should have a say in that decision. This is your life, you lead it the way it feels best to you. Same holds true in our businesses.

Your social media channels shouldn’t just be a collection of good times and pretty pictures, it’s a sacred residence for you to tell your story. Plus, people really dig that shit.

(I’ll be perfectly transparent here, I’ve spent countless hours trying to figure out how to get my Instagram feed looking just right: not too many colors, only using 1-2 photo filters, and being strategic in my every post— but screw it. I give up. I don’t care anymore. It’s my feed and well, if you like me you might want to follow me. If you don’t, that’s cool too.)

This desire to be picture perfect to everyone but ourselves is not only dimming our light, it’s diluting the individuality of our culture and frankly, it’s gotten me a bit peeved. How are we suppose to lead our clients, fans, and friends to aspire for greatness on their own terms, when we keep editing and re-editing our own story based on what it looks like or how it affects others? We contradict ourselves. So let’s change all that today!

This month at Holistic Fashionista we celebrate fashion and style, but it’s not all about exterior; we need to be pretty on the inside too— that’s why being tolerant isn’t going to fly anymore.

For example, last night I took a look at my pajamas and was like, “why the fuck am I wearing this to bed?” Bows on my jammy bottoms— so not me. Why does this pair of underwear I’m wearing have zebra stripes on it? I don’t love zebra stripes.

If we took a minute out of our hectic days to track the amount of hours we spend on shit that doesn’t tell our real story, and paid our focus on being a truer version of ourselves, how would our life be different. And more importantly, wouldn’t we be more client attractive to those we’re meant to serve?

I don’t know about you, but I’m on a mission to find out.

So let’s do this experiment together:

  • Make a list of all the time you spend giving a fuck, and then stop doing all of them

  • Stop postponing doing something that you really want to do because someone close to you doesn’t approve

  • Check your Facebook timeline and write down the last time you shared something vulnerable. If it’s been awhile (perhaps never), then share something that touches your soul today.

  • Go through your product offerings and rewrite your sales copy to sound more like how you really talk— stop trying to sound like a sales man

  • Go through all your clothes, (skivvies and bralets included) and dump out anything that doesn’t feel like who you really are (hate those paisley yoga pants you got on sale, say farewell)

  • Open your fridge and look at your condiments on the door, toss the ones you don’t use or that only taste so-so (your tastebuds deserve better!)

  • Throw away the ugly nail polishes and perfumes you don’t use, yes even the designer ones you paid full price for

  • If you purchased a car because it was practical at the time, but you really wanted a luxury mobile, sell it and get what you really want— life’s too short!

  • Dump all those nasty lipsticks that don’t make you feel beautiful. Instead create your own shade by playing make-up counter

  • Unfollow, unfriend, and delete people from your social media channels who have bad energy, they are affecting you whether you know it or not

  • Write a newsletter to your email subscribers telling them you’re about to get real and if you lose a few of them, wish them well and move on. (It’s only a number and they probably weren’t going to buy from you anyway.)

  • Say goodbye to being tolerant and say hello to having a voice

  • If you hate your thighs, do something about it. Don’t just tolerate something deep down you really want to improve.

  • If you struggle to figure out where being tolerant is getting the best of you, spend more time alone. Dig deep and figure out what isn’t working for you and where your voice has been diluted. Then take massive action!

Clearly, I’ve struck a nerve in my own life as I’ve undoubtedly have been overly tolerant to the actions and lifestyle choices that do not correspond with my deepest desires, values, or self worth.

So today I’m giving you permission, as I have given to myself, that a life of mere tolerance isn’t a life that is truly aligned with who I am or what I want for myself. And if I want to stand in my power and be the leader I was born to be, tolerance is going to be getting some boundaries, sister!

And when you’ve finally calibrated back to standing in your power and owning your voice, it’s important to reflect. You’re a leader and what you do, say, and post has an affect on people— for good or for not so good. But what’s worse, is a watered-down voice due to tolerating all the crap that crosses your boundaries. It’s going to be incredibly difficult to attract your Kismet Clients and take your business to the next level.

Isn’t it time to say goodbye to tolerance and hello to becoming the leader your tribe needs you to be?

I do. Let's do this.

Why Rebellion is a Great Strategy for Making More Money in 2016

Strategy for Making More Money in 2016

Strategy for Making More Money in 2016

As the year comes to a close, I cannot help but reflect on the past. From my crazy years as an unruly adolescent to the big move to San Francisco at the age of 18— I'll say it humbly, I’ve always been a rebel. Like most entrepreneurs, I don’t like to be told what to do. Instead, I prefer someone to help me see challenges through a new lens so I can make up my own mind and make my own decisions-- in business and in life. And here at Holistic Fashionista, that’s exactly how we help our clients too.

We don’t believe in hierarchy, the coach-to-client relationship or the I'm an the teacher and you're the student mentality. It feels contrived. After all, we aren't know-it-alls, we're a team and we like to dance to the beat of our own drum. Plus, our goal is to be a powerful team together, not give or take orders!

But even for the most independent and self-assured entrepreneur doesn't likes to break rules, live on the edge, take chances, or endure that begrudging leap of faith. In fact, most boutique brands are playing it too safe, even though they have big dreams and financial goals to reach. Why is that? Whether it’s increasing your advertising budget or speaking on stage, each and every one of us has fears that need to be faced before we can get to the next stage in our businesses. 6-Figures? 7-Figures? Touch more lives? You decide what the next stage is for you, then we'll support you in getting there!

Since 2016 is right around the corner, I can’t help but stare rebellion straight in the eye and say, “I'm ready! Show me the way.” Just like anyone, from time to time I can get a little complacent and fall into the traps of playing it safe, but with new goals to tackle in 2016, I’m ready for more and I’m taking you with me!

So let’s break it down:

Where is your rebellion barometer:

While I am no psychologist, I believe rebelliousness comes from a strong desire to think, feel, and do what’s in your heart even if it makes waves, furrows brows, and ruffles a few feathers. If we’re going to get to know ourselves better so we can break-free from our insecurities and rock out 2016 to the fullest, the first things we need to do a little soul searching. So I'm going to suggest asking yourself harder questions.

1) Where am I playing it safe?

2) What am I afraid of?

3) How can I test the waters without jumping all in?

4) Is there a way to get what you want without gambling?

As much as rebellion wants you to jump in with both feet and rock the boat, rebellion isn't running the whole show-- and doesn't need to be. We simply need to recognize that a desire for different results will require a change. And with change, rebellion is perking his little head up and ready to get fired up! Tame the rebellion by taking incremental steps, test the waters, and notice what kind of results you get.

How to use rebellion without giving the birdie:

From time to time, your rebellious attitude may feel like a fuck-it attitude. No I’m not talking about giving someone the birdie or parachute sailing, I’m talking about breaking down the fear that is preventing you from making more money in your business, changing more lives, and releasing all those limiting beliefs that are keeping you stale.

Perhaps you didn’t spend much on advertising this year or hire that much needed assistant, somewhere in your money story you were holding on too tight, which was preventing you from taking the next leap of faith in your business. Where are you holding on too tight? Make a list of areas in your business that are being run by fear. Then, ask yourself how your business might look differently if you did the unthinkable. This may cause of increase in blood pressure, but it will challenge you to see the areas in your business where you are playing too safe. Take inventory.

Rebellion is a sacred act when it is honed carefully. It allows you to think before you do, but to still act courageously and with integrity. The easiest way to tap into it, is to feel where you are holding on too tight. Once you can feel the tightness, you’ll better understand where you need to loosen the reigns and let go.

Why rebellion is a key ingredient to sensational:

Rebellion allows us to see the world differently, and as a result, our creativity skyrockets. Beautiful concepts, ideas, and businesses have been birthed from rebelling against the mainstream, pop culture, or even dissociating with what is considered acceptable. When we aren’t afraid to use our voice to speak up, be heard, put a piece of our soul out there for the world to judge, we grow as human beings.

The more often you practice rebelliousness, the more in tune you become with yourself and the idea of taking a chance or a leap of faith becomes second nature. It's just part of the process. It’s not longer about “will it”, it’s about “what if.”

As you set your New Years goals, remember that manifesting what it is you desire is possible. If you can’t imagine it happening, it can’t be birthed. if you’re too scared to take a risk, you’ll never know. If you're too caught up in the outcome, you'll never get started. Embracing rebellion isn’t about hurting other people or causing chaos (ok, well maybe a little), it’s about challenging yourself and others to dig deeper into themselves so they can finally discover what has been holding them back. Once you've done that, you'll achieve different results. So what's the harm in that?

If you want to go from good to sensational, rebellion is the quickest path to cash!

To be rebellious in business means to take chances, to believe you will be carried no matter how out on a limb you go to make your business work… for you. If you want to make more money, then it's time to stop playing it safe. Allow the Universe to provide for you by taking a leap of faith. You just might find that you will be carried.

The Coaching Curse: Why You Really Can't Find Your Voice

THE COACHING CURSE:
Why You Really Can't Find Your Voice
Issue #30: Letter from the Editor

Magazine: Issue #30

how-to-find-your-voice.jpg

If you’ve been working at your business for a couple years now and you’re still in the phase of turning a profit, well, don’t worry you’re not alone. After numerous consultations with prospects and consulting sessions with clients, I’ve come to learn that the majority of new entrepreneurs are struggling with the same exact problem: finding their voice. I like to refer to this as The Coaching Curse.

The Coaching Curse is the inability to tap into your own creativity and thus you struggle to ever find your voice. You want to start a WebTV show, have toyed with the idea of launching a podcast, or when the keyboard hit the text edit document to write an article, the same exact problem shows up: you can’t hear your own thoughts. All you can hear is all those annoying voices from people you follow on Facebook or newsletters you subscribe to.

Before you know it, The Coaching Curse has taken over your soul, and you’re left with two options: follow the crowd and become a copycat or you take a step back and call bullshit on the entire industry. Am I right?

I know this not only from the personal struggles I hear from clients, but I was once right there struggling with the same problem— But instead of falling into the copycat syndrome, I got hella angry and decided to rebel against the industry.

Here are three tips to help you rebel against The Coaching Curse and
finally find your own original voice:

Unsubscribe from 90% of Newsletters:

Yup, you heard me right. If you can bring yourself to unsubscribe to the majority of ezines, you’ll stop feeling like you’re missing out and start focusing on what it is you want to say. You might have been coerced to thinking all the Gurus have all the answers to your problems, but you’d be mistakenly incorrect. The only person who knows what’s best for you… is YOU. Stop your excessive desire to fill your brain with more ideas and sit down and find your own thoughts.

Stop Asking Others for Advice:

And yes, this includes your mom too. It’s only natural when we are excited about something and/or are having a problem with something in our business that we want to share it with people we are closest to. The problem is, most of your friends and family members (are not entrepreneurs) will generally always want to provide their two cents and be helpful because they love you and want you to see you thrive, but they aren’t you ideal customer. Furthermore, they are filling your head with their voice, and alas preventing you from finding your own. Stop asking everyone else what they think and start asking yourself different questions. You’ll be astonished how miraculous the brain can be when it’s trying to problem solve! Give it a try.

Make a List of 50 Things:

This is a miracle worker when struggling to find your voice in business. Pull out a pen and paper (yes, I truly mean a pen and not your keyboard— creativity works best when the ink hits the paper) and make a list of 50 things you are passionate about, topics that get you jazzed up, bullshit tactics you want to call bullshit on, and what subjects you want your customers to start thinking about that aren’t currently being talked about in a real way in your niche. When you get to number 25, this exercise gets hard, but I assure you by the time 45 comes around, you’re going to want to go to 100!

And remember, to have a successful business, you’re going to have to wear many hats, but if you can’t keep the role of the Entrepreneur inside you excited, you’re going to fall off the wagon. That means you’ll either want to give up, take a step back, or be tempted to thinking someone else has a better idea for you. It’s all nonsense.

Finding your voice is one of the key ingredients to the success of your business. Copycat businesses will eventually go out of style and pretty soon, everyone will be calling you a bullshitter too. Don’t fall into The Coaching Curse. Find your voice and forget about what everyone else thinks or does. You became an entrepreneur because you had BIG ideas, not mediocre ones and not ones that were created by someone else.

Best of Luck!
Angel

I can’t sit here (behind my computer) and pretend that I’m not someone who hides behind my computer, cuz I am. With Pinterest and Bloglovin’ hunting me down every few hours enticing me to drool over all the awesome photography, style, and creativity living on the web (and probably not copyright protected), a girl can get lost in salivation.

Recently, I spoke At The Helm right here in Los Angeles, right before our fabulous Grand Opening of the Holistic Fashionista showroom, and while I’ve been asked to speak in front of entrepreneurs and fashionistas in the past, it’s definitely not a marketing strategy I actively seek out. I love being behind the scenes!

But there are tons of cons to building your brand with your ass in the chair. To my pleasant surprise, I get many clients from meeting people in person despite my whacking-wild-Kool-Aid-style way of delivering nerdy content on: sales funnels, attracting your Kismet Client, and learning math formulas to get a return on your advertising investment.

So here are some easy ways of getting people to notice you, hire you, and spread your genius for you without leaving your city:

Speak at Events:
There is always an event coordinator out there looking to fill a spot for an event to replace someone who got sick or cancelled at the last minute. You’d also be surprised to learn that someone of these people are your Facebook friends! Make an announcement or have a speaker page on your website so everyone knows you’re open for speaking engagements.

Build a Tribe:
Building a local tribe is probably one of the smartest things you can do for your business. I may have been a slow starter, but with our newly launched Holistic Fashionista Chapters, we’ve made it easy to  start building your very own local tribe immediately while we do a lot of the marketing for you! Once that local tribe is built, you now have a list of people who would happily attend a workshop or a live class!

Host a Class:
For some reason the perceived value of a live workshop isn’t nearly as high if you hosted in online (weird, but true), so I prefer to host short classes to bring new prospects to me. It can be tricky figuring out what to name your class, but keep it simple and make sure it’s obvious what problem it solves. You’ll have people signing up, especially if you use your Holistic Fashionista Chapters to help promote it. Win Win!

Take these tips into consideration as you consider growth strategies for your business. No matter what stage of the game you’re in, building your clientele locally is not only smart, it gets your booty out from behind the computer and an excuse to wear those sassy booties! Now go show ‘em whose boss!

3 Things to Prevent You From Giving Up On Your Darkest Days

3 THINGS TO PREVENT YOU FROM
GIVING UP ON YOUR DARKEST DAYS
Issue #28: Letter from the Editor

Photography by: Steve Conner

Photography by: Steve Conner

As Game Changers in business, (and I think I speak for the entire Holistic Fashionista tribe when I say) building a brand is not for the faint of heart. In my weekly newsletter on luxury business essentials, I frequently share the ups and downs associated with building a brand online.

From copycats to internet trolls, there is a fine line between those who love what you’re doing (so much they like to recreate it for themselves) and those who just want to stick out their tongues as your climb the ladder of success.

However, no one is really talking about how that affects the Game Changers internally; the ones who are putting it all out on the table because their mission is to change lives, on a soul level. I say from experience… It always stings a little. After all, we are still human beings and yet, this appears to be a taboo topic: how to cope with the lows of being a leader of a movement, so we’re left to our own devices, the grueling effects of monkey mind.

From experience, I have learned 3 things that motivate me even when I feel like I want to crawl under a rock and die. In the privacy of my own mind, sometimes I think to myself, I could dropped dead tomorrow and feel I have accomplished enough to feel good about what I’d leave behind— my legacy. But like  then with a quick jolt to the heart, I snap out of it and keep going because I know that monkey mind is playing tricks on me again!

Here are the three things that prevent me from giving up even on my darkest days:

1) I remind myself there are a lot of assholes on the planet.
Look, I may have holistic values, but that doesn’t keep me from being a realist. The fact of the matter is there are tons of assholes roaming the planet and most of them like to take up space online. As soon as I feel bummed out that I let a jerk take away my mojo, I remind myself that trolls exist and so do posers, copycats, law-suit happy gurus, and green-eyed monsters. It’s just part of life.

2) I start a new project.
There’s not a bigger motivator to get my creative juices flowing than someone pissing me off. I always want to step up my game, improve on my strategies, and send gratitude to those who are always there for me when the dark days show their devilish faces. I’m lucky I have Club Members, clients, and Business Besties who are for-lifers! And the best part about starting a new project when you have people on your side? They reap the benefits and you just grew your tribe. Giving back is the ultimate Dr. Feelgood and a money-maker too! Double win!

3) I read a book or 5.
As cliche as the saying goes, readers are leaders and if you’re a Game Changer it’s a mandatory ingredient to the success of your revolution! Training your mind to think positive on those dark days can be a bit of a struggle for me, for I have definitely NOT mastered the art of positive thinking (or meditation for that matter), but I do know that reading takes my mind off the negative and into the galaxy of increased knowledge. And because I love cliche sayings, knowledge is power and for me, reading books help me feel more powerful.

If you ever feel misunderstood or you’ve let the dark days nearly get the best of you, know that Holistic Fashionista and myself and here to support you. We know being a Game Changer has it’s trials and tribulations, but if you have a mind that needs guidance, these three tips have done wonders for me. And if you prefer a shot of tequila or a night out with your favorite gal pals, by all means do it! The goal is to feel better as soon as possible so you can go back to spreading your message far and wide without further delay.

A Successful Business Starts with a Conscious Mind

THE LAW OF INTEGRITY:
{a Successful Business Starts with a Conscious Mind}
Issue #27: Letter from the Editor

CEO/Founder: Angel Quintana

You can lie to yourself and you can lie to others, but the one thing you can never truly lie to is your conscious mind— that is unless you’re a sociopath, but let’s leave those people out of it. There are only two ways to run a business, ethically or non-ethically— either way, eventually things catch up with you for better or for worse.

This month here at Holistic Fashionista we are celebrating originality. And let’s face it, who knew that originality would come with its consequences. As Coco Chanel said, “If you want to be original, prepare to be copied.” Being copied is never a good feeling even if “copycatting is the sincerest form of flattery,” I assure you, it most certainly is not.

The more well-known your brand becomes, the more someone wants to jump in on that gravy train and take a piece of the pie for themselves.

But then there is that little lingering after thought: it’s call the conscious mind. Whether we choose to listen to the little voice on our shoulder that says, “I wouldn’t do that if I were you” or you get tangled up in the fear-based subconscious mind who persuades you to believe, “No one will ever find out” it’s a double edge sword— do the right thing or try to push it down so far so you never have to deal with it.

One way or another, the result will be the same. You will have to deal with it at some point, so why not just deal with it now? Why add unforeseen costs, annoying stress, and extra baggage to a business decision that could have been resolved in minutes had you just acted with integrity.

As I write this, I cannot answer that question— for I speak for myself and my clients when I say, we don’t run our businesses this way. Running a business with integrity means you settle your debts, you swallow your pride and you do what’s right… Because if you don’t it will catch up with you sooner or later; or worse, it will eat away at your soul and your sanity bit by bit. And there is nothing more distracting that running a business with an unclean soul.

With an unclean soul, originality cannot be birthed, for originality breeds on introspection and is the mother load of creativity. Without creativity, a business cannot sustain without problem-solving and if copycatting is your forte, eventually your business will drown in Universal debt and that’s a payment plan you don’t control its maturity.

Perhaps the subconscious mind can fool you from time to time to believing there is a shortcut to success, but I assure you, the only shortcut to success starts with your original idea, putting in the time and effort needed to bring that vision to fruition, and building a brand based on a fundamental Universal Law: integrity.

Success That Sticks

SUCCESS THAT STICKS

In business, we’re often pulled in so many directions on any given day that a bill slip may slip through the cracks or worse, we miss a dog grooming appointment. And yes, while having a checklist, Google calendar, or your passion planner are mandatory tools to staying organized when you’re hella busy changing lives (and the world!), sometimes there are other important to-do’s on the Change Makers agenda.

When it comes to making a difference, the Club Members in this issue have that skill down packed. Their contribution to our culture and subcultures are pivotal as they embark on yet another season of improving the planet one person, one day at a time. That’s because, they’re Change Makers— they have slightly different priorities and know lil Bobo & Bandit will get groomed before the weekend.

Change Makers are chosen agents who take a stand for what they believe in and practice mindfulness and compassion 7-days a week, 365 days a year. Here at Holistic Fashionista, we are believe the “success that sticks”, starts with a daily practice of mindfulness. This daily practice usually involves rituals like: meditating, journaling, reading, exercising, or a combination of all the above. As the age old saying goes, “You cannot help another if you cannot help yourself”— that’s what makes the Change Maker so good at their job. They make themselves first priority.

This month we are honored to give recognition where recognition is due— to the Change Makers of the world who not only have made it their life’s mission to improve our experience with life, but who are prime examples in holistic leadership. Leadership starts from within and with daily mindful rituals, changing the world is truly possible.

If you too, have found yourself missing an appointment or getting down on yourself for being less than perfect, just remember we all mess up once in awhile. However, if you’re here to make big strides in our Universe, pat yourself on the back and remember this: sometimes you’ve got bigger tasks on your to do list and something’s gotta give.  It might not be your morning yoga or your mid-day meditation, but we know rituals are different than daily to-do’s, they are the fuel that breaths life into new beginnings.

Recharge Your Success with a Creative Rebirth

RECHARGE YOUR SUCCESS WITH A CREATIVE REBIRTH

As we enter into the exquisite weather of Summertime, the ocean sparkling, the trees blossoming, and our desire to spend time outdoors, the romance of creativity that sets in is now in full bloom. And while many of us have exotic getaways to the islands or european vacations planned to recharge batteries with friends and family, there is still plenty of time for solitude; the birth place of your creative genius.

This month at Holistic Fashionista we might be shopping for summer dresses or spending time with gal pals toasting at our favorite downtown brunch destination, but the visionary inventions that are brewing in our personal cocoons are nothing less than extraordinary. In fact, as the clock strikes money o’clock, we are in the mood to give, receive, and play with the big leagues. Who’s in?

With a few hours each week spent in solitude or ‘think tanking’ with our mastermind counterparts, the cocoon is the perfect place for a visionary to retreat. This is where brilliant ideas transpire and inspiration beams down from the heavens to give us high-fives! They know we’re rad and who can blame them… we’re doing it for a great cause!

Behind the scenes we’re brewing up a tasty batch of “making a difference”, going postal with mailbox marketing, and introducing video commercials to our menu of services right here in The Club, which we believe will be a total game changer for our tribe of holistic online marketers. Can we hear a “YES, PLEASE!” We’re excited to say the least.

So if you’ve been thinking about taking that much needed retreat to reboot your motor or spend quiet time alone to revisit some of those old journal entries, now is the time to use your cocoon for an immediate creative rebirth.

Before you know it, your butterfly has emerged and you’re ready to spread those well-crafted wings and fly high to serving your ideal customers who are excited to find you… But not without your business besties by your side, cheering you on from the sidelines, and anxiously awaiting to see what happens once you step outside the cocoon. We know it’s going to be pure magic a little butterfly told us so.
